Review: First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

I've been using this cleanser for a while now and it's long overdue a review!

What it claims
"First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser gently cleanses the skin, removes surface oils, make up, dirt and grime. Its whipped texture transforms into a rich cream when blended with water. It is infused with a powerful botanical antioxidant blend that works hard to scavenger free radicals."

My verdict
This is a very gentle cleanser! It's fragrance-free so great for those of you who's skin reacts to perfumes. It's a bit foamy but not too much. Generally, cleansers that foam can be pretty drying to I tend to stay away from those types but this one definitely doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or stripped.

The texture is really weird as it feels whipped but creamy as well although it's not actually a cream cleanser...Whatever you call it, it does the job.

I've been using it only as a morning cleanser as I don't think it's enough to remove any makeup really (you need more of an oil for that!). Not sure about the free radicals claim either but at least its ingredients list isn't longer than the bible and is without parabens, sulfates and phthalates. It contains some natural things in there too like aloe leaf juice, white tea leaf extract and licorice roo extract. Yay plants!

How much is it?
£14 from feelunique.co.uk but sometimes you can find it cheaper on Amazon.

Recommend?
I would recommend this to every skin type except for dry skin as I feel this could exacerbate the dryness but if it works for your skin, that's all that matters :)

Review: Nuxe Reve De Miel lipbalm

Confession: I have a lip balm obsession. This is the Reve De Meil lipbalm from Nuxe - £9.50.

What the website says:

"An intensely hydrating lip balm that will protect and repair dry, sore and chapped lips.

French skincare brand Nuxe road-tested this ultra-hydrating lip balm in Canada to ensure that its unique blend of nourishing plant extracts and oils could protect delicate lip skin against extreme cold and intense environmental stresses. Their winning formula - which has gained Rève Miel Lip Balm a cult beauty following the world over – comprises honey, plant oils, shea butter and grapefruit essence to instantly protect, repair and restore comfort to chapped lips."

My verdict

This is a beautiful lip balm. It has a refreshing, sweet citrus scent that's not too strong and doesn't smell like bathroom cleaner. You can tell it's of high quality. It hydrates the lips pretty well and stays on longer than others because of the beeswax. I only have a few gripes with it:
  • the packaging is a luxurious frosted glass pot but it's so damn heavy you'll feel like you have a brick in your handbag
  • as it's very waxy, when you apply it it WILL highlight all the flakey bits on your lips if you have them
  • the finish is matte rather than glossy (because of the wax) and it doesn't make for a good base for lipsticks
These are only minor things though of course. I really love this little lip balm! There's quite a lot of product in there and I can't really see myself finishing this up any time soon!

Review: Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado Oil

This is one of Kiehl's cult skincare products - the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado - £20! I got this for Christmas and have given it a good, long test.

On the Kiehl's website it says:
  • The unique, concentrated texture is enriched with Avocado to gently moisturize the delicate eye area
  • The formula does not migrate into eyes and is Ophthalmologist and Dermatologist-Tested

My verdict
I can definitely attest to it's mega moisturising properties! I'd say that it's the second most moisturising eye cream I've ever tried - second to Bobbi Brown's Extra Eye Repair Cream (which is way more expensive). From using it a lot, (every night and day & night on the weekends) I've noticed my under eye area is less puffy and the skin is plumper and more taut making this an excellent choice for anyone needing to strengthen your delicate under eye skin or if you have the first signs of aging (fine lines). The avocado oil and the shea butter do an excellent job of hydrating without it feeling like you have oil slicks under your eyes. Not attractive.

As a contact lens wearer, I can also confirm that it didn't blur my eyes if any got in there and it doesn't burn either. The consistency is very think but it melts right into the skin pretty quickly. It doesn't have much of a smell at all really which is great for all those that hate fragrance. And, best of all, you only need the SMALLEST amount. Seriously, a dab is all you need, meaning that this little tub of goodness will last you a long while.

Overall, I'm really happy with this eye cream! I recommend it to people of all skin types and conditions except those who are prone to millia.

My favourite natural and affordable acne treatment!

Hello there!
I've been scarce this week I know. It's been a super busy one for me plus I was still on the mend from my wisdom teeth surgery and was in pain for the first half of the week. I'm OK now though! Seems to all be healing up nicely :)

Today I want to show you a great and affordable product to help with spots. Well, actually two because there's two in the picture above, duh.

On the left we have Grease Lightning from LUSH - £6.40! A few years ago, I completely gave up on the harsh spot treatments. They just dried out the skin around and on the spot making it look so much worse than it actually was! Grease Lightning is aloe vera based and contained things like lavender oil, tea tree, thyme, rosemary and witch hazel. All of which calms and soothes the skin on and around the pimple - not piss it off. And don't worry, lavender oil isn't pore clogging.

Tea tree oil is naturally antibacterial meaning that it destroys bacteria and suppresses their growth. This makes it a very effective tool in achieving clear calm skin. It's very strong so never apply it neat to the affected area - it should always be diluted.

You can use this product as a serum all over your face or just as a spot treatment. I've used it as both with success. I have the odd pimple here and there and this helps massively, especially with those big angry red ones that come up around 'that time of the month'. It takes the size right down faster than any of those 'zit zappers' ever did.

Another skin calming method I have is taking pure tea tree oil, (you can find this in any health food store or Holland & Barrett's) and putting about 15 drops of it in the Boots Rosewater Toner - £5.99 (or any rosewater toner you can get). Give it a good shake and spritz that all over your face after you cleanse and before you apply your moisturiser, serum or spot treatment. Instant relief for the skin and it adds a little bit of moisture too! It's an awesome toner for refreshing the skin at any time of the day. I know that some people don't get along with tea tree oil, so remember to do a little test patch on the side of your face first in case you're allergic.

So, throw out your harsh drying spot treatments and go pick up Grease Lightning today. It will change your life. It's a staple in my beauty cupboard that I can't live without!

xx
